The Counts’ Castle recalls medieval lordship, with courtyards and a moat set within the town.
The Château des Comtes has roots in a 14th-century fortified residence; by 1430 it had become the ordinary seat of the lords of Mouscron. Its remaining buildings, courtyard and moat preserve the outline of a seigneurial complex, though restoration work has been prolonged.
The castle stands within the modern town, where historic streets and civic spaces reflect Mouscron’s position in Hainaut near the French border. The landmark offers a compact way to read the area’s passage from rural lordship to a growing industrial and cross-border community.
