The five towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral shape the skyline near Belgium’s oldest belfry.
The Notre-Dame Cathedral combines a Romanesque nave with a Gothic choir; its five towers shape the skyline and its treasury holds medieval metalwork. Nearby, the Belfry of Tournai, dating from the late 12th century, is Belgium’s oldest. Its bells and civic history make it more than a viewpoint.
Walk through the Grand-Place and toward the Scheldt to see façades and historic lanes at street level. The Saint George Tower and Fort Rouge are surviving pieces of the medieval defensive network, while the cathedral and belfry are both UNESCO-listed landmarks.
