Old plane trees shade Hlohovec’s castle park, where the Empire Theatre recalls the town’s stage history.
The Baroque Hlohovec château stands in a large park with an old plane-tree orchard. Its grounds also contain the Empire Theatre, one of Slovakia’s oldest surviving theatre buildings. The pairing of manor, theatre and mature trees makes the riverside quarter a rewarding architectural walk.
In the main square, St Michael’s Church dates to the 15th century; nearby, the Franciscan monastery houses the Homeland Studies Museum. For a wider view, head to the Šianec lookout, which frames the Váh valley and the town’s position below the Považský Inovec foothills.
