Cross the Colonnade Bridge and look for the statue of a man breaking his crutch.
The 1930–33 Colonnade Bridge, also called the Glass Bridge, crosses the Váh to Spa Island. Its functionalist design by Emil Belluš includes etched glass panels; at the town end, the famous statue shows a man breaking his crutch. The bridge is both a riverside crossing and a monument to the spa’s healing identity.
On the island, historic spa buildings and landscaped paths sit beside the river and thermal springs. The Balneological Museum in town traces the region’s spa tradition and local history. Walk the promenade back toward the centre to see how the Váh separates the urban streets from the quieter island grounds.
