The Cidadela de Cascais grew around the coastal fortress of Nossa Senhora da Luz, guarding the entrance to the Tagus estuary. The former military complex now frames a walk through the old centre, where the Condes de Castro Guimarães Museum occupies a fanciful early-20th-century residence beside the sea.
A short coastal route reaches Boca do Inferno, a sea-carved chasm and rock arch just west of the centre. Atlantic waves surge into the opening, exposing the limestone cliffs and making the town’s maritime setting tangible.
