At Museu de Portimão, the old cannery tells the story of fishing and canning along the Arade.
The Museu de Portimão occupies a restored late-19th-century fish-canning factory on the Arade waterfront. Its permanent exhibition, Portimão: Territory and Identity, follows the community’s links with fishing, canning and shipbuilding, making the industrial building part of the story.
South of the town centre, Praia da Rocha is known for broad sand and sculpted cliffs along the same coast. In the centre, the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição rises above the streets; rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, it retains a Gothic portal from the earlier church.
