A boat trip through the Hortillonnages winds past garden islands and vegetable plots.
Cathedral and old quarter
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame d’Amiens is a vast Gothic landmark above the Somme, famed for its sculpted portals and coherent medieval design. Nearby, the Musée de Picardie displays regional archaeology and fine art in a purpose-built 19th-century building. Walk the old streets around the cathedral to see how the historic core follows the river.
Gardens on the water
The Hortillonnages are a network of cultivated islands and narrow canals formed by the Somme and Avre. Local growers once moved vegetables by flat-bottomed boats; today paths and boat visits reveal this unusual urban wetland. The Saint-Leu quarter adds canal-side lanes and waterside façades.
