The underground Danish Maritime Museum follows the outline of the former dry dock.
Kronborg Castle guards the narrow Øresund passage and appears as Elsinore in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Its ramparts, towers and casemates frame views across to Sweden; the castle’s toll history reflects the shipping route between the North Sea and Baltic.
The M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark sits below ground in a former dry dock beside the castle, using the dock as part of its architecture. Nearby, Kulturværftet, a converted shipyard hall, hosts exhibitions and performances on the waterfront.
