The red Renaissance wings of Frederiksborg Castle reflect in the still waters of Castle Lake.
Frederiksborg Castle stands on three small islets in Slotssøen, with its red-brick Renaissance wings reflected in the water. The Museum of National History occupies the castle and traces Danish history through portraits, furnishings and decorated rooms. Outside, the formal Baroque Garden extends the palace setting into carefully ordered terraces.
The town centre lies a short walk from the castle across the lake. Beyond it, Store Dyrehave and Gribskov offer broad woodland paths; parts of the region’s historic parforce-hunting landscape are UNESCO-listed. Hillerød links royal architecture with the forests of North Zealand.
