From Uster Castle, look out over the rooftops, then follow Greifensee paths through reeds and quiet bays.
Estimated journey times
Uster Castle stands on a hill above the church and town centre, a visible landmark in the local landscape. The tower overlooks the roofs toward Greifensee and the Zürich Oberland. At the foot of the hill, former industrial buildings along the Aabach have been adapted for new uses; the BUAG cotton-spinning site, founded in 1892, preserves the relationship between waterpower and textile production.
From Niederuster, paths follow the protected shore of Greifensee toward Greifensee village or Riedikon. Small natural bays, reed beds and open water shape the route; most of the lakeside reserve is accessed on marked paths to protect habitats. Combine the castle viewpoint with a lakeside walk to see Uster’s rise above a wetland and lake landscape.
