Freddie Mercury’s bronze statue stands on Place du Marché facing Lake Geneva.
Lakeside promenade and music
The bronze Freddie Mercury Statue, unveiled in 1996, stands on Place du Marché facing Lake Geneva. The singer recorded with Queen at Mountain Studios in the former casino, linking this waterfront town to the band’s later history. The annual Montreux Jazz Festival grew from the same musical identity.
Chillon Castle
East along the shore, Chillon Castle occupies a rocky islet between lake and mountains. Its towers, courtyards and halls show how the Counts of Savoy controlled this route along the lake; the setting also places medieval fortification against the broad Alpine landscape.
