The Brink is the central square, lined with historic façades and the stepped Renaissance front of De Waag, once the city weigh house and now a museum. Walk through the Bergkwartier, where narrow lanes and merchant houses climb towards the Lebuinuskerk. Its tower is a landmark above the rooftops and the IJssel.
The IJssel shaped trade and continues to define the city’s open riverfront. From the quay, notice how the old centre rises slightly above the water; ferries and river paths connect the urban streets to the surrounding floodplain landscape.
