Fountains and arcades frame the Water Tower on Friedrichsplatz, at the heart of an Art Nouveau ensemble.
City of squares
The grid of numbered Quadrate was laid out in the 17th century between the Rhine and the Baroque Palace. Inside the palace, a broad courtyard and long façade reflect its former role as an electoral residence.
Water Tower and gardens
The 60-metre Wasserturm anchors Friedrichsplatz, surrounded by an Art Nouveau ensemble. Fountains, arcades, and planted spaces make this square a useful pause between the city’s ordered blocks.
