Walk past old mine buildings in Nordsternpark to the amphitheatre beside the Rhine-Herne Canal.
Estimated journey times
Nordsternpark occupies the grounds of a former coal mine beside the Rhine-Herne Canal. Retained mine structures, a canal-side amphitheatre and footpaths show how industrial land was reshaped as public space. The park’s bridges and elevated viewpoints connect green areas with the Ruhr region’s working history.
At ZOOM Erlebniswelt, large themed zones represent Alaska, Africa and Asia, with landscapes designed around regional habitats. The zoo sits near the Nordsternpark area, making a day between industrial heritage and wildlife possible. In the city centre, Musiktheater im Revier offers a striking modernist counterpoint to the old mine buildings.
