Martin Breg’s vineyards and wine cottages keep local St Martin celebrations in sight across the low hill.
Estimated journey times
The hilltop Church of St Martin is the area’s oldest major monument, first built in 1209. Archaeological traces around it suggest an earlier religious site, while a seven-metre wooden statue of the saint stands nearby. The church was damaged in the 1880 earthquake and later lost its parish role.
Martin Breg is a low hill of vineyards and wine cottages, tied to celebrations of St Martin. The settlement also grew at the meeting point of railway routes east of Zagreb, a contrast between its agricultural slopes and its transport links.
