In Zrinski Castle, the Međimurje Museum brings regional life and the family’s history into focus.
Estimated journey times
The fortified Old Town of Čakovec is centred on the former residence of the Zrinski family. The complex was reshaped in Baroque style under the Althann family in the 18th century. Today the Međimurje Museum fills its rooms with archaeology, regional history, art and exhibits on the Zrinski legacy.
The permanent displays include the Treasury of Međimurje and a gallery of local art. Together they connect the castle’s noble household to everyday life in the region between the Mura and Drava rivers, making the museum a useful starting point for understanding Međimurje’s distinct identity.
