Paths wind beneath Bøkeskogen’s beech canopy above Farris Lake, with a view across the landscape from Utsikten.
Bøkeskogen and the landscape
Bøkeskogen, Norway’s largest public beech forest, rises above town along the Ra Moraine. Its canopy, paths and viewpoint at Utsikten look toward Farris Lake, a freshwater lake formed in a glacial landscape. The forest has served as a public recreation area since the 19th century and offers a contrasting green setting to the coastal streets.
Manor and maritime history
The Larvik Museum occupies the historic Manor House, a former residence associated with the counts of Larvik. Exhibitions connect the town with maritime trade, local industry and the history of the surrounding region. Nearby, the memory of explorer Thor Heyerdahl, born here, adds a modern chapter to Larvik’s outward-looking coastal story.
