Havmannen, Antony Gormley’s granite figure, stands offshore in Ranfjord, shifting with tide and light.
Estimated journey times
Walk the pedestrian spine from the town hall and Nordlandstorget toward the Ranfjord. At its seaward end, Havmannen, Antony Gormley’s granite figure, stands offshore as part of the Skulpturlandskap Nordland collection. The sculpture was unveiled in 1995 and is visible in changing relation to tide, water and surrounding mountains. The route makes the town’s central public architecture and fjord setting legible together.
Mo i Rana grew as a trading place before becoming known for iron production; the industrial era shaped its modern centre and regional role. Use the waterfront and nearby viewpoints to read the contrast between urban fabric, fjord and steep northern terrain. The town lies south of the Arctic Circle, making it a useful base for exploring Rana’s mountain and cave landscapes.
