Watch the current turn beneath the Old Bridge of Evripos, with the Red House by the waterfront.
Old Bridge and tidal strait
The Old Bridge of Evripos is the city’s central landmark, spanning the narrow channel between Evia and mainland Greece. Here, the Euripus Strait is known for currents that reverse direction several times each day. The waterfront promenade provides a place to watch the passage of boats and the changing water below the bridge.
Old town and seafront
The Red House is a neoclassical mansion facing the coast, while the Karababa Castle stands across the channel on the mainland shore. Together they frame the strait from opposite sides. Walk through the central streets to the Arethousa Spring, an ancient water source associated with the city’s foundation stories.
