Roman walls crown Kaleto Hill, while carved stones from the ancient settlement rest beneath the Lapidarium’s trees.
Roman Montana
Climb Kaleto Hill to the ruins of Castra ad Montanesium, a fortress above the Ogosta valley. The hill preserves traces of prehistoric settlement as well as Thracian and Roman occupation; finds from the Roman town are held in the local history museum.
Stone in the park
The Lapidarium displays carved stones and inscriptions from the ancient settlement outdoors. Together, these sites give a compact introduction to the layers of history behind this northwestern Bulgarian town.
