The Royal Pavilion’s domes rise beside the Lanes and Brighton Palace Pier on the pebble shore.
Royal Pavilion and the Lanes
The Royal Pavilion, built for the Prince Regent, gives the centre its distinctive domes and Indo-Saracenic silhouette. Beside it, the Pavilion Gardens form a green link to the Lanes, a maze of historic narrow streets that grew from the old fishing town. Nearby Brighton Museum & Art Gallery adds local design and social history.
Seafront and pier
The pebble shore stretches past Brighton Palace Pier and the skeletal remains of the West Pier. The waterfront’s Regency terraces and public spaces reveal how a small fishing settlement became a major seaside resort. Walk east toward Volk’s Electric Railway to follow the coastline’s Victorian leisure history.
