The National Waterfront Museum traces Welsh industry and maritime life from the 18th century onward, linking the city’s docks with coal, steel and transport. Nearby, Swansea Museum is Wales’s oldest museum and gives a local counterpoint through collections on the port and region.
At the Dylan Thomas Centre, exhibitions explore the poet’s life and writing. A short walk inland reaches the remains of Swansea Castle, once positioned above the River Tawe to control the harbour and route along the coast. The centre’s streets mix these fragments with a modern market and civic buildings.
