At the Janko Kráľ Museum, a recreated courtroom and prison cell tell the story of folk hero Jánošík.
Estimated journey times
The Janko Kráľ Museum occupies historic houses around Námestie osloboditeľov. Its exhibits follow the town’s story and the trial of folk hero Juraj Jánošík, whose courtroom and prison chamber are recreated in the old cellars. The square’s arcades and civic buildings make a compact walk through Liptov’s regional history.
Beyond town, the Demänovská Valley cuts into the Low Tatras and contains the Demänovská Cave of Liberty, known for flowstone chambers and underground water. The nearby Liptovská Mara reservoir opens a contrasting broad-water landscape. These landmarks make the town a gateway between urban heritage and mountain geology.
