Walk through Baťa Colony to see the red-brick homes and flat roofs of this planned shoe-making town.
Estimated journey times
Founded as Baťovany around a shoe factory, the town was planned as an industrial settlement. The Baťa Colony preserves rows of functionalist worker homes, including the early Červená Street houses with exposed red brick and flat roofs. Architect Vladimír Karfík, associated with the Baťa design office in Zlín, shaped the housing scheme. Walking the neighbourhood reveals how urban form followed the factory and workers’ needs.
The town’s compact centre reflects its planned origins, while the nearby Nitra River and surrounding lowlands set its landscape. The name Partizánske commemorates Slovak partisans, linking the industrial foundation to wartime history. The municipal landmarks and surviving Baťa-era houses make this a distinctive example of 20th-century Slovak town planning.
