On Kő Hill, the bronze Turul Monument commemorates the 907 Battle of Bánhida. A marked path leads to Szelim Cave, a protected archaeological site with a broad rock entrance and evidence of prehistoric occupation. The pair stands above the town in the wooded Gerecse landscape.
Tatabánya grew as a coal-mining centre, and the Ranzinger Vince Lookout Tower reuses the shaft structure of a former mine elevator. From this industrial landmark, walking routes connect the mining past with the hills and cave sites above the city.
