Pause at the granite fountain on Krakonoš Square, where the mountain spirit watches over the arcades.
Estimated journey times
Start at Krakonoš Square, the historic centre of Trutnov. Arcaded façades frame the space, while a granite fountain holds the statue of Krakonoš, the mountain spirit associated with the nearby Krkonoše. The figure gives the square its name and connects the town’s civic centre with regional folklore. From here, the pedestrian mall leads toward the park and the remains of the old city walls.
In the park, look for the dragon fountain: it stood in the main square until the end of the nineteenth century before being moved. The town’s statue walk also passes a memorial to local poet Uffo Horn and the Dance of Death monument to soldiers lost in the First World War. Stairs formed from parts of the old walls link the park route back toward the centre.
