Behind the Seat Fortress’s thick walls, Moldavia’s medieval court once held sway.
The Seat Fortress of Suceava was built in the late 14th century and served as a principal residence of Moldavian rulers for nearly two centuries. Its thick walls and reconstructed interiors show the defensive and courtly role of this hilltop stronghold. Below, the Princely Court preserves archaeological traces of the medieval palace complex.
The Monastery of Saint John the New, founded in the early 16th century, belongs to the UNESCO-listed Churches of Moldavia. Nearby, the Bucovina Village Museum assembles traditional houses, a mill and a smithy, giving context to the region’s wooden architecture and rural crafts.
