Stephen’s Tower looks down over the old mining square at the heart of the historic centre.
Old square and Stephen’s Tower
At Piața Libertății, Stephen’s Tower is the bell tower of a former medieval church. Its position above the old square makes it a useful starting point for reading Baia Mare’s historic core, where merchant houses and civic buildings reflect the town’s mining-era prosperity.
Art and mineral collections
The County Museum of Mineralogy Victor Gorduza displays specimens from the region’s mineral-rich mountains, while the County Museum of Art traces the Baia Mare artists’ colony. Together, the collections connect geology and artistic life to the nearby Maramureș landscape.
