On Piața Unirii, a boundary marker near the Union Monument recalls the line between Moldavia and Wallachia.
The city’s union story
Begin at Piața Unirii, where the Union Monument stands on the historic border between Moldavia and Wallachia. The square gathers several markers connected with the 1859 union of the principalities, including an old milestone that recalls the former division. Nearby, the Maior Gheorghe Pastia Popular Athenaeum adds a civic and cultural landmark along Bulevardul Unirii.
Churches and civic streets
The tourism centre identifies the Armenian St George Church on Cotești Street as an important religious monument. Walking between the square, the Athenaeum and the church gives a compact overview of Focșani’s layered identity: border town, union symbol and regional cultural centre. Notice how the central streets connect these sites rather than treating the square as an isolated monument.
