Climb Kaleto Hill to the ruins of Castra ad Montanesium, a fortress above the Ogosta valley. The hill preserves traces of prehistoric settlement as well as Thracian and Roman occupation; finds from the Roman town are held in the local history museum.
The Lapidarium displays carved stones and inscriptions from the ancient settlement outdoors. Together, these sites give a compact introduction to the layers of history behind this northwestern Bulgarian town.
