Piast Tower is the sole surviving part of the castle once built on Ostrówek, an island in the Oder.
The Piast Tower is the sole surviving part of Piast Castle, demolished in 1928. Built in the medieval period, it stands on Ostrówek, an early settlement site by the Oder. Its exhibitions trace the castle and the city’s history, while the tower’s silhouette remains a landmark above the river island.
The Millennium Amphitheatre opened in 1963 for the first National Festival of Polish Song. The nearby Museum of Polish Song follows the country’s popular music through recordings and stage history, giving Opole a modern cultural counterpoint to its Piast heritage.
