Książ Castle’s grand rooms show how the Hochberg family expanded their residence over the centuries.
Estimated journey times
Set aside time for Książ Castle, a large residence on a rocky promontory above the Pełcznica valley. Its layered architecture reflects centuries of expansion by the Hochberg family. The surrounding wooded park gives context to the castle’s hilltop position; paths and terraces connect the buildings with the steep landscape. The separate Palm House is part of the wider estate story and reflects the family’s horticultural interests.
In town, Stara Kopalnia occupies the former Julia coal mine and presents mining history within its industrial buildings. The contrast with Książ is striking: one site represents aristocratic life, the other the labour and technology that shaped the region. The Porcelain Museum adds another local industry to the picture, with collections tied to Wałbrzych’s manufacturing history.
