Ikšķile Church, built in 1185, stands in ruins on St Meinhard Island.
Estimated journey times
Ikšķile Church was built in 1185 under Bishop Meinhard, and its ruins are among Latvia’s oldest remains of stone buildings. They stand on St Meinhard Island in the Daugava reservoir. The island also has a stone altar and a ten-metre metal cross.
Visitors can travel to the church by boat or ferry. When the reservoir’s water level is low, it is possible to reach the island on foot. The ruins, altar and cross are all on the island; access on foot depends on the water level.
