At Sitarjevec Mine, a visitor route through an adit passes mining tools and vivid limonite formations.
Estimated journey times
The Sitarjevec Mine was worked for lead, mercury, zinc, copper, iron and barite, and more than 60 mineral types have been recorded. A visitor route through an adit presents mining tools and stories of the miners; limonite formations add a geological dimension to the site.
The Sava River runs past the town, while nearby Bogenšperk Castle is associated with the scholar Janez Vajkard Valvasor. The castle’s museum and wooded grounds make a contrasting excursion from the mine. In town, riverside paths connect the industrial heritage with the valley landscape.
