Ravne Castle’s displays trace ironworking, while steel sculptures from Forma Viva stand in the castle park.
Estimated journey times
Ravne Castle began as a 16th-century fortress built by the Hebenstreit family. A foundry followed nearby in the 17th century beside the Meža River, eventually developing into the region’s steelworks. The castle museum’s permanent displays trace ironworking, mining, forestry and wood industries that shaped Carinthian life.
The Forma Viva open-air collection places steel sculpture within the town, linking industrial material to contemporary art. The castle’s park and library grounds offer a quieter counterpoint to the working industrial landscape of the Meža valley.
