From the Collegiate Church terrace, the yellow stone roofs slope toward Lake Neuchâtel.
Castle hill and Old Town
The Castle and Collegiate Church have stood together on the rocky hill since the 12th century. Their yellow Hauterive limestone stands out above the medieval lanes, hidden courtyards and cloister. The castle remains the seat of cantonal government, while the church’s terrace looks over the lake and historic roofs.
Lakeside streets
Walk down through the pedestrian Old Town toward the waterfront to see how the medieval centre meets Lake Neuchâtel. Local routes pass fountains, arcades and stone façades; the nearby Jardin Anglais and Place Pury open onto the lakefront and its long promenade.
