The astronomical clock on the Zytturm keeps watch over the cobbled lanes of the old town.
Estimated journey times
Begin at the Zytturm, a former gate and watchtower with an astronomical clock that shows more than the hour, including the weekday, month and moon phase. Its passage leads into the cobbled lanes of the old town, where former defensive towers and historic façades mark the medieval street pattern. Nearby Zug Castle houses a museum of local cultural history and stands among the oldest buildings in the centre.
Walk down to Landsgemeindeplatz, an open town square beside Lake Zug. The promenade follows the water with views toward the surrounding hills and the Rigi. A short circuit from the Zytturm through the old lanes to the lakeshore shows the town’s compact relationship between fortification, civic life and water.
