At Domkirkeodden, a glass structure shelters the medieval cathedral ruins, letting you see the old masonry up close.
At Domkirkeodden, a glass structure shelters the ruins of Hamar Cathedral, destroyed during the Reformation. The open-air Hedmark Museum gathers more than 60 historic buildings from the surrounding region, while Storhamarlåven, a former barn adapted by architect Sverre Fehn, houses its main exhibitions.
The waterfront path links Domkirkeodden with the Norwegian Railway Museum and the sculptural Vikingskipet, built for the 1994 Winter Olympics. These sites trace Hamar’s layers: medieval bishopric, railway town and host city for international winter sport, all beside Norway’s largest lake, Mjøsa.
