A ride on Rhein-Schauen’s old railway traces the story of Rhine regulation through the changing river landscape.
Estimated journey times
Rhein-Schauen combines a museum about the Rhine’s floods and regulation with rides on the former construction railway of the International Rhine Regulation. Its exhibits connect engineering, local history and the changing Alpine Rhine landscape.
The Alter Rhein nature park follows a former river channel through floodplain woodland. Nearby, Auer Ried and Gsieg-Obere Mähder protect wet meadows and reed habitats in the Rhine valley, giving the market town a strong contrast between industrial river works and open countryside.
