At Visaginas Park, a full-scale simulator reproduces the Ignalina plant’s control panel.
Estimated journey times
Visaginas was built as a satellite town for the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. Its orderly modernist housing, pine-fringed streets and lakeside setting reflect the planned urbanism of the late Soviet period. The city’s crane sculpture, made in 1989, became its official symbol.
The visitor centre explores the plant’s history and decommissioning. At Visaginas Park by Lake Baltas, a full-scale control-panel simulator reproduces the Ignalina unit’s controls. The surrounding lakes and forests give this industrial story a distinctly northern landscape.
