Walk past Hohenems Palace and through the Jewish Quarter, where centuries of community history come into view.
Estimated journey times
Hohenems Palace, begun in 1563 to plans by Martino Longhi, anchors the historic centre. Its library yielded two important manuscripts of the Nibelungenlied, found in 1755 and 1779. The building remains privately owned; the grand hall is used for cultural events.
Walk Marktstraße and the Jewish Quarter, where traces of Jewish life sit alongside early civic institutions. The municipal history highlights the country’s first coffeehouse, bank and printing press in this district. Together, the palace and quarter show how a small Alpine market town became a courtly and cultural centre.
