The Purmerends Museum stands in the former town hall on Kaasmarkt, the historic market square. Its collection includes the city’s distinctive Art Nouveau pottery, produced locally between 1895 and 1907, as well as work by designers J.J.P. Oud, Mart Stam and Jac. Jongert.
Purmerend developed from a fishing settlement into a market town between the drained Beemster, Purmer and Wormer lakes. The museum’s local-history displays help explain how land reclamation reshaped the surrounding region and its economy.
