On Place Saint-Michel, the 40-metre tower rises above the square beneath its octagonal baroque dome.
Begin at Mersch Castle, a 13th-century stronghold now used as the municipal administration; its former chapel houses a small museum about the building. Across Place Saint-Michel, the 40-metre Saint Michael’s Tower is topped by an octagonal baroque dome. It is the remnant of the old collegiate church and the square’s most visible landmark.
A nearby Gallo-Roman villa points to the settlement’s earlier history. Mersch also sits at the northern end of Luxembourg’s Valley of the Seven Castles, whose route follows the Eisch past sites such as Schoenfels and Hollenfels. The town’s park and riverside setting make a gentle pause between castle stops.
