See Jamtli’s thousand-year-old Överhogdal tapestries, then visit the runestone on Frösön.
Estimated journey times
Jamtli, the county museum of Jämtland, combines historical buildings with exhibitions on regional life and art. Its Överhogdal tapestries, about a thousand years old, are among Europe’s oldest complete picture textiles; displays also cover Viking-age history and Sámi life.
Across the water, Frösön holds a runestone dated around 1030–1050, whose inscription records the Christianisation of Jämtland. Nearby Frösö Church and Sommarhagen, composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger’s former home, add religious and musical layers to the island landscape.
