Art on the river

Sandgrund Lars Lerin occupies a former restaurant and dance hall on the Klarälven waterfront. The gallery presents watercolours, oils, graphics and photographs by artist Lars Lerin. Across town, Östra bron carries a stone-arched roadway over the river; its twelve arches make the historic crossing a landmark in central Karlstad.

Island city

Karlstad grew among branches of the Klarälven near Lake Vänern. The riverfront paths and bridges reveal this island-like geography, while the gallery’s reused dance hall links the city’s working social history with contemporary art.
