At 78 Derngate, see a Georgian house whose interiors Charles Rennie Mackintosh reshaped in 1916.
The All Saints’ Church dominates the central square, rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1675 destroyed much of the medieval town. Its broad portico and tower make it a clear landmark among the surrounding streets. Nearby, the market-town layout still centres on the square, a useful starting point for tracing Northampton’s civic and religious history.
South of the centre, Delapré Abbey began as a medieval nunnery and later became a country house; its grounds preserve a quieter landscape near the town. For a very different period, 78 Derngate is a Georgian house remodelled in 1916 by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, with distinctive interiors and fittings. Together the sites show a town shaped by successive architectural eras.
