Abbey and royal ceremonies

Westminster Abbey has served as the coronation church since 1066. Inside, the Coronation Chair, Poets’ Corner and royal tombs connect national ceremonies with literary and political history. The church’s architecture spans centuries, from medieval chapels to later memorials.

Parliament beside the river

Across Parliament Square, the Palace of Westminster holds the Houses of Parliament, with Big Ben rising above the Thames. Nearby St James’s Park offers a green route toward Buckingham Palace, linking government buildings, royal landmarks and open parkland on foot.
