Wander Old Bar’s uneven stone lanes to the aqueduct whose arches once carried water into town.
Estimated journey times
Stari Bar is the historic fortified core set on a steep slope below Mount Rumija, several kilometres inland from modern Bar. Walk through the gate and along the walls to see layers of medieval, Venetian and Ottoman construction. Among the surviving landmarks are the Church of St Catherine, the Church of St Veneranda, a 17th-century Turkish bath and the Clock Tower.
Below the old town, the stone Bar Aqueduct once carried water toward the settlement; its arches form a striking approach to the ruins. The surrounding slopes are known for olive cultivation, linking the archaeological landscape to a living agricultural tradition. The site’s uneven lanes and scattered structures make it best understood as a historic townscape rather than a single monument.
