Walk from Kilkenny Castle to St Canice’s Cathedral and climb its old round tower.
Kilkenny Castle began as a Norman stronghold and later became the Butler family’s residence; its rooms and riverside grounds show different layers of the town’s history. Follow the Medieval Mile north to St Canice’s Cathedral, where a climb up the round tower gives a close look at an early Irish stone structure.
The Medieval Mile Museum, in the former St Mary’s Church, interprets local history through objects and monuments. Along High Street and Parliament Street, look for medieval lanes, carved doorways and the Tholsel, a historic civic building by the central market area.
