Lunca Muresului → Sibiu

Squares, towers and old lanes

Start in Piața Mare, the historic market square, framed by the Brukenthal Palace and the Council Tower. The tower marks the passage to Piața Mică, where the 1859 Bridge of Lies spans between merchant houses; its ironwork has circles and rosettes. Continue uphill through the fortified streets to the Lutheran Cathedral, whose spire defines the skyline.

Folk architecture beyond the centre

In Dumbrava Sibiului, the ASTRA Museum lays out traditional homes, workshops and watermills from across Romania in a wooded setting. Its paths show how vernacular buildings relate to tools, crafts and landscape. The open-air collection makes a useful counterpoint to the merchant façades and stone fortifications of the centre.
